Happy New Year 2016 :-)

We all dogs from Saija´s kennel want to wish to you Happy New Year 2016!

We have been so excited about starting of the winter season. We have enough snow (almost 30 cm), and also the ice condition in the lake is good for running. At the moment we have a lovely winter weather, - 5 degrees. We have been running with guests now four weeks, and we all are happy about to get in the real action (we love it!). Here you can see some selected pictures of running:

 

Our daylight is quite short at the moment, the lenght of day is around 4 hours. When the sky is clear in the daytime, you can see the sun during the day :-) For us it´s okay, we are used to it, and we don´t need light for running! Now, before the Christmas our day start to come longer, step by step.

In the kennel our life has been nice and full of action, we have done many short and long sledding trips in the forest and along the lake. We wish, that our next year will be full of nice, beautiful winter days with running in the sledge and to you we wish also Happy New Year :-)

Juuuuhuuuu, finally we got our first snow!!

And because we have to learn still a lot, for example walk and run in that funny, cold, soft and white thing our caretaker took us for a great walk.
The sun was shining and we had soooo much fun. We were running and sliding and jumping.
And sometime, when we got a little too wild we had to break with our nose, as you can see here on the picture, where Ira has her nose covered with snow.

She was very wild, and we were playing and rolling so much in the snow. Of course we also had to dig here and there, discover a little and taste the snow. It was interesting, everytime we had the snow in our mouth it melted so quick away... Maybe Mummy can explain to us, why that is. Or maybe you know the secret?
Our caretaker was very nice to take us out, and we were allowed to go without any harness or leashes, we just had to promise, that we would come back anytime she would call us. And because we didn`t want to loose her trust, we did.
I think, she wanted us to look great on the pictures.
Did you noticed how big we are already? We are eating and we are growing and then we are eating even more, what a nice circle of life :)


Snow is very much fun to play, and we found out that there is quiet much to discover. Sometimes under the white and cold blanket we found sticks or even gras.
Now, when we have this the soft, white snow cover, we will enjoy our playing sessions outside the whole winter. And if you ask me...Yes: we were made for snow!!! :)

 Hi there!
I know excactly, what you must be thinking. Who are those 4 cuuuuute puppies?! But let me help you a little to get to know us better.

This is me, Beth, and I will introduce my family to you and tell something about us.
We arrived here in Saija on 04th of October, but we were born about 4 months ago and raised in Askos homeplace. It was so nice and quiet there, but when we arrived all the other dogs started to bark and yowl!
It was so loud, but I think it was just their way to say "Tervetuloa" - welcome - to us.
My mother is Jessica, you can see her in the background and later also on one picture with my brother. I like her very much, she is so patient and we can jump all over her and tease her and she won`t be too angry with us. My father is Ana.
Since I am here I heard already very often, that I look very alike my father. I hope that when I grow up I can run as good and reliable as he does, I think I have quite big pawprints to fill! But until that I will just play with my siblings and do funny stuff.

Here you can see my sister Bea.
Bea doesn`t really like that someone wants to take pictures of her, so she tried to eat that poor girl, that was sitting there with the camera.
I am happy that it didn`t work out, because after our photo-session she brought our food!
To help a little I distracted Bea and played with her, so you can see her on the other picture a bit better (she is the one on the right).

On the next picture there is my another sister Berit.

She is always up to jump and play arround and she is also very creative to find something to do if we are bored. This morning for example she discovered that there was a tiny little hole in the fence.
She told me about it and we thought it would be nice to visit out neighbour Mos.
It wasn`t a too nice idea, I think Mos rather lives alone.

When the girl, who is feeding us, came this morning, we quickly crawled into our home kennel again and acted like nothing happened, of course we wanted our cuddling moment with her. I think she noticed anyway, the hole is closed now...But I am very sure that Berit will find something new to explore.

 And last but not least there is Inuvik, my only brother. He is a little bit calmer then we girls are, and I think we should sometimes be a little nicer to him. He likes to hide next to our Mummy, as you can see in the picture.  And from what I see, he is the one that looks much alike her. And he has such a fluffy and soft hair, I like it so much, when I can sleep next to him in our house.








Like the other dogs we are waiting now for the first snow to come. I heard it is even nicer to play in the snow, but of course in our kennel there are a lot of rumours going around :)

 News from Saija´s Kennel

Hi there! We are Ira and Inka, the youngest and boldest but surely the most beautiful huskies here in the Kennel :-) Our mother is Bebbe and father is Pirta. Now we are 7 weeks old, and we are very interested about everything, what is going on in Saija´s Kennel. Of course in our age we are quite curious and now that the days are very rainy we really like to play outside in the mud. But we also like to cuddle a lot!

I am Ira. I´m a little bolder and braver than Inka, I always want to be the first one! It was also me, who was first outside from the house, while Inka was still sleeping inside. I´m also quite anxious, when we have feeding time. I like to try to eat all food from all bowls, but because my mummy is teaching us well, I´m already getting used to share my food with her and my sister Inka.

And this is me Inka, I´m am a little bit more shy and careful then my sister is, but she is teaching me well and I am already almost as curious and brave as she is. Now that she showed me how fun it is to play outside and with the nice people who take care for us, I`ve noticed how fast I can run. And like Mummy told us, good sled dogs need to be fast. But I guess we will see about that in next spring or later, when I start to train for pulling a sledge. Looking forward for that!
Sometimes I am soooo tired of all this playing with my sister that I even fall asleep while cuddling with the people who visit me.

But see what beautiful girl I am; my parents even gave me one blue and one brown eye, so I could see trough them both eyes :-)

Inka

As fall has come to the Saija´s kennel, all leaves in the trees are yellow and red. It looks so beautiful! We are already waiting for the first snow... hopefully it comes soon. Usually we get our first snow in October :-)

Last dogsleds for this winter

Again, the spring wins the wintertime and days and nights are warm. Which always means, that winter season is over, and our last dogsled trips are coming... Now we have only one day left, and then starts the summer holiday for us, for all 155 dogs.
During the winter time we all dogs, who are running on the sled, were quite busy. We were so happy, because we love to run! Our running circumstances were variable in this winter, one moment there was a lot of snow (some places more than 1 meter!), what was a little bit challenging for us when it was snowing so much. But it was only a short time, and then it was again normal. Temperature during the winter was nice, only few days with really cold weather.
Even we enjoy of running, we also love our summer holiday, when we just take the sun and relax by lying on the roof of our houses. You are welcome to look us, and perhaps you want to make a walking trip with us :-)

News from Zebu and Zoni

One month has gone so fast, now is already March. We have been growing, if it´s true, what our mother Donna has told to us. We all are still in a same fence, sometimes our mother makes also sledding trips and then we have time to play like boys (wrestling and so on...)!

Our friends in the kennel has been also busy, they are so happy when they run in the sledge. Few weeks ago we had a lot of snow, there was over 1 meter snow in some places. We loved it very much, but now it has little bit melted away, because we have had quite warm weather (around zero, even plus degrees). This is an unusual for us, usually we have much more colder weather, minus 20 until even minus 30 in February. Let´s see, what we will have on March. We hope a lot of sunny days and nice weather :-)

 

 

 

 

 

Zoni and Zebu

 

Hello! We are Zoni and Zebu, the newest huskies in the Saija´s Kennel.
We have had extremely busy time here in Kennel, in these three and half months, what we have been living here with our mother Donna. We have to be awake early in the morning, when is the first feeding time. After eating we have to look carefully, who is going to be running in the sledge during the day. We have to also say hello for everyone, who is visiting in the Kennel. Some reason, everyone want to see us and even give a hug. They tell, that we are cute :-) And then, in the afternoon, we have to check that everyone, who has been running on the sledge, has come back, because the dinner is served after 4.00 p.m. In the beginning, it was little bit confusing, when some dogs were not back in the evening but our mother Donna told to us, that they are in the overnight trip in Harjajärvi cabin. And it is true, we have notice that all dogs will be back before Friday evening! In our days are also including lot of playing, usually we try to figure out which one is stronger... And of course, we have to run a circle in the fence that we are enough fast to run in the sledge, when it´s our time to start run. But that we have to wait a while, instead of running in the sledge we can later walk with lovely guests here in Saija Lodge. We are also pleased of all the snow, what we have here (almost 80 cm), it is so nice to play with that!
